Fleas are a common call from Bacchus Marsh homes with dogs and cats, and from people who have moved into a rental where the last tenants had pets. Farm dogs and outdoor cats can also bring fleas in from sheds, yards and under the house. Warm weather speeds up the flea life cycle, so problems tend to peak from late spring through summer.
Most of the flea population is not on your pet at all. Eggs, larvae and pupae sit in carpet, rugs, couches, pet bedding, under the house and in shaded parts of the yard. The crew we book treats floors, rugs, pet sleeping areas and outdoor spots where animals rest, using a treatment that kills adults and stops young fleas from developing. Heavy problems may need a second round, priced upfront.
- Treatment of carpets, rugs and floor edges
- Treatment of pet sleeping areas and couches where suitable
- Subfloor and under-deck treatment where access allows
- Outdoor treatment of shaded yard areas and kennels
- Clear steps to take before and after the visit
Before the visit, vacuum every floor, under furniture and along skirting boards, then empty the vacuum outside. Wash pet bedding in hot water. Have your pets treated by your vet the same week, or fleas will simply come back in on them. After the visit, keep vacuuming every day or two for a couple of weeks, as this brings hatching fleas out onto the treated surfaces. Keep pets off treated floors until the crew says they are dry.
